The location is Phoenix.
The malfaction are trucks - all kinds of trucks - driving in the high speed lanes and even in the HOV lanes.
Gas tankers; flatbeds; vans; reefers; belly dumps; end dump; all kinds of truck driving in the high speed lane (that's what I call it, anyway), almost always going FAR slower than prevailing traffic and basically - giving the motoring public a new excuse to hate truck drivers and trucks in general.
Now, in the Phoenix area, there are hours of operation for the HOV lane. 6am to 9am and 3pm to 7pm. All other hours, it's just another lane to drive in. Most people don't know that, even though the signs give the hours of operation, but apparently truckers have found this little gem out as well.
So now, we have trucks in the HOV lanes and the high speed lanes, and there is no apparent, good reason for it. They could easily be cruising along just as fast and not blocking traffic in the middle lanes.
I'm at a loss. I don't understand this behavior and I certainly don't agree with it. I've had thoughts of calling the company of each truck I see and reporting them. I don't know if companies even care about stuff like that anymore - I haven't done it yet anyway. I see far too much crap going on on the freeways from ignorant drivers that I have REALLY been considering starting to call their employers.
I DID turn in a driver of a smaller truck a while back. I took a 5 minute video of this person and what they were doing, posted it to YouTube and then called and emailed the company with the URL to the video. They viewed the video and "took the steps management deemed necessary". I was thinking of doing the same. You can call me a traitor to my fellow driver - but a lot of my "fellow drivers" nowadays aren't drivers at all, as far as I'm concerned.
Why are trucks driving in the inside/high speed and HOV lanes?

good call my company and after my boss man laughs at you ..make sure you leave your name and number and where you work so i can come mess with you at your job...I am sure there is a speed limit and if Phoenix is like any other major metro area its probably a 55 or 65 mph zone and your trying to do 75mph if you need to run that fast you SHOULD HAVE LEFT EARLIER. ....but hey i bet you spend most of your time holding up the middle lanes so others have to go out there to get around you cuz you WONT move to the right....
-
That was an extremely intelligent, well-thought response. Of course, I'm driving 75mph in the city on the freeways - I said that, didn't I?
You are obviously clueless. I said nothing about MY speed, I never said I was driving 75 mph, the ONLY and OBVIOUS statement was why OTHER drivers are driving in THOSE LANES?
You're right, I don't sit in the right lane - I keep up with traffic in the middle land and therefore, am NOT holding up traffic. Makes sense to me, but for you?Last edited by a moderator: Feb 17, 2009

I have no idea why they would. It seems to me the traffic in Phoenix is heavy no matter what lane you are in.
I believe it is your choice to rat on the other drivers so to speak.
Just remember, not all the time are you going to be adhering to the speed limit and road rules. Many of the people could start doing the same to you.
Because all of the traffic is running over the speed limit does not relieve you of the professional driver standards.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 17, 2009

lol your too funny....if there is no lane restriction laws there WHAT business is it of yours what lane the other trucks are in...unless they are holding you up...and according to your own post there are only a few hours a day that the lanes are restricted....if the trucks are not in those lanes durring that time what business is it of yours....there is only one reason i can think of and its just good ole fashioned jealousy...that you have a little dog stuck on the porch and cant run with the big dogs...i guess what i am really saying is drive your truck and let them drive theres if they are breaking the law its between them the police and their employer...

Lol. It's my business cause' "drivers" don't drive in fast lanes and hold up traffic. Those trucks are going at least 10 mph slower than the traffic that is backed up behind them want to go. They cause traffic to slow down which has a cascading effect that goes on long after they've been on that stretch of highway.
My biggest concern is nothing different than the attitudes shown here: You're a big-time truck driver, you can do anything you want! Yeehaw, tough guys, lets get out there and show em' we can do what we want, when we want to.
And people wonder why the trucking industry is hated/disdained/disliked by the general, motoring public.
I'm paid by the hour, it matters little to me whether I can "keep up with big dogs". My little daycab can keep the speed limit - which is 75MPH on most of the Interstate highways in AZ.
The point here? Macho guys - with attitude.
I've never liked talking to brick walls, so go ahead, get your last word in cause I won't be responding to it. -
Gentlemen, let's keep this CIVIL!! If not, I WILL start issuing infractions.
smurf-316, Baack, StrawberryWine_SC and 1 other person Thank this. -
These trucks driving the fast lane, you say they are driving slower than the other traffic, but are they under the speed limit? Is that lane illegal to trucks during the off hours? If not do you follow them far enough to see if they are just passin thru the city? If its not illegal and they are maintaining speed limit. Whats wrong with trucks passin thru? Let them keep their distance from the on and off merging traffic. All other trucks not following that concept I don't have a answer for you. (Their Idiots)
Wiseguywireless Thanks this. -
you are quite righ IF the trucks are not doing the legal speed limit they need to get their butts over into the granny lane, However if they are doing the legal spped limit and there are no restrictions they are doing nothing wrong.
Lets also remember that we are talking about Pheonix, and all their recently installed speed cameras so anyone driving OVER the speed limit is likely to get a letter requesting money in the mail from the local traffic enforcers, which is a very foolish thing to do. -
Phoenix has traffic cameras?
I know I run the speed limit through there so I never worried, but the way the traffic flows, I would think the cameras would be overworked.
