"Photo Enforcement Zone"s are a completely different issue and another irritant. Drivers slow down in a 65mph zone to as much as 50mph going through those zones. Those cameras have caused quite a number of accidents and there is growing rebellion in the state of AZ against them, including a Pinal county Sheriff and other "outstanding citizens" I'll call them.
And no, for the rest of it, the drivers in question are NOT going the speed limit. -
My "little dog" can go the speed limit of 75MPH on the Interstates where the speed limit - is - 75mph. Jealousy of "big dogs" , even saying such is quite juvenile. I could care less if I could keep up with whatever, I don't really care. I have a very tight schedule and I want to at least be able to do the speed limit on the freeways - drivers doing 55 or 60 -whatever the governor is set at, apparently, hogging the HOV lanes or the "high speed lanes" have no business being there.
-
All this is the reason I run the bypass. Not much further only what 10 miles and no stress
..

The ONLY way you are safe in a "Photo Enforcement Zone" in the Phoenix area is if you are doing less than 76 mph. The cameras are set to go off at 11 mph over the posted speed limit, and those cameras are almost totally in places where the speed limit is 65mph.
-
The cameras are already all over the place.

There is no legitimate reason for a driver to be in high speed lanes going 5 or 10mph less than the posted speed limit. Certainly have no business in the HOV lane doing that. At those speeds, they can sit in the middle or slow lane or the 3rd lane - since there are many areas with at least 5 lanes in one direction, and not hold up other drivers that want to go faster.
-
Well, Mr. Retired Federal DOT Official, you apparently didn't do too much thinking about it. Have you never heard of dash mounted cameras? They are commonplace nowadays and that's exactly what I had and have going.
-
Arizona doesn't have truck lane restrictions. The HOV lanes are in Phoenix are in operation from 6:00am until 9:00am and 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm - all other times anyone can be in those lanes. My issue are drivers in the the "hammer" lane - which is what I have called it for a long time now - not even coming close to doing the speed limit.
