What an awesome, well worded post!! You hit the nail on the head! :yes2557::yes2557:

Abuse of power is a horrible thing. Also, there are many, many truck drivers on the road with degrees - because there were no jobs for them in society today or because they got sick of the politics of the white collar world. After all, you certainly don't need anything more than a grade 12 and a few months of training to become a police officer so the pot's calling the kettle black, hmmm??:biggrin_25522:

I thnk you were all wrong to gang up and give Squid a hostile reception after he revealed himself to be an LE. Someone should send him a private message to let him know we over reacted. I tried, but seems its set not to allow PM until after you've posted at least 5o messages. Squid got a bad impression of us truckers, and this experience may have negative repercussions. For all we know, he's now made it a policy to start pulling as many truckers over as he can, believing that he's doing the public good, by not only generating added revenue for city/county coffers, but demoralizing us in the process with the objective of putting the idea in our head that we should consider a career change, as opposed to staying in this career.

Face it, the man's got too much power !! He's liable to abuse his position of power after the way we treated him !! He didn't mention what state, county, department he was in !! I'm guessing he was a bear; with statewide jurisdiction !! The fact that he had logged on to this site shows he was trying to figure out the mentality thinking of a typical trucker. Our hostile demeanor will leave him to conclude we're outside of law-abiding, morally-upstanding citizens. He'll justify pulling over truckers and harrassing us, with the conclusion we deserve whats coming to us because we're anything buy civil-minded citizens. We may had created a monster after the hostile attacks on him !! We need to implement damage control here !! Somebody needs to send him a PM to let him know we respect him as an LE. You need to psycho-analyze these cops; just as we truckers want respect and acceptance from the general public, so do these officers of the law want respect and acceptance from the public they serve. These cops feel they're putting their lives on the line to protect public citizens, and what to they get in return ??? As Rodney Dangerfield would say, "I get no respect at all."

Well, I tried that once, and he didn't reply. And, he hasn't been on here since July, so any such "damage control" measures would be pointless.

I dunno what to make of all of this. One thing for sure, squid likely aint comin back. His loss. I may catch some crap for this, but I will travel in any lane, that is legal, that is going at or near the same speed as I am traveling. If I happen to be in the right lane, and I see an on ramp, I do, appearently more then the average driver does. I turn my head and look at the top of the ramp to see whats coming. I know not every ramp gives us that luxury, but alot do. If there is traffic, I move over for the ramp, and usually get back over. If I cant, and there is a poorly merging 4 wheeler, or truck for that matter, I slow down, let him on, and speed back up. 4 wheelers usually show alot of respect if the truck shows it FIRST. backwards as that may be, that seems to be the case. He speeds up, he's gone, our paths dont cross again. I have had a few times though where I have had the attitude of I was here first, they are the ones merging, and MY unprofessional attitude as such, tends to create a negative reaction from the car, such as the slamming on brakes. These people may not know alot about trucks, and the industry and what drivers go through, but they do know it takes alot to slow down, and regain speed. they know it irritates drivers. So if they feel wronged, they will want revenge. Am I saying thats okay? no. am I saying I agree? no... I am just saying you have to play the game. Like it or not, thats all life is, to alot of people. I used to be one of the angriest people you'd meet. Mad about everything. Anything even. But getting mad isnt worth the effort it takes. Change lanes in your mind. Instead of complaing how stupid the other driver is for doing something dangerous to save 10 seconds, think... hey, did I really need that 10 seconds? I am gonna get slowed down in a mile for this grade anyway, or whatever the case may be. Dont let the other person change your mood. When that happens, everything else is down hill. Cause you're gonna get mad at the car for anything it does, you're looking for negatives. Just slow down, save some fuel, which saves some money. and save some aggrevation. truckers and 4 wheelers. and I know I havent said it here, I am obviously not the first one to think it... but man, trucks in the left lane is great. let all the short hoppers do their thing next to the majority of the exits. So, sorry for my lil rant there, I am sure someone will pick it apart. feel free. I take everything in. helps me understand how people work. helps keep me calm in knowing most peoples mentalities are just reactions to how THEY perceive something. know how they will perceive something, you'll know how to adjust and not have issues.

you 'work' in law enforcement and you can't understand why trucks do certain things? you must be a rookie. pay attention a little more to your fellow 4 wheelin' brains out there and get a clue

of cops are worse than the 4 whlrs . after all , they are the ones that are supposed to be setting the example on safety and yet they don't seem to give a #### about speed limits , safe passing, failure to use 4-ways on the shoulder ,etc. not to mention the fact that they don't stop half the idiots that are blatantly breaking the law. donuts and coffee are more important

man, if this guy dont sound like a nyc cop

    talk about fitting a stereotype

how much education does it take to be a cop? pass a civil service exam, a psycho test, and some background...........and if you were to ask most people what people have the WORST ATTITUDES IN LIFE.. most would say a cop

i personally think most cops were wannabes in high school and figured a gun and badge would give them an identity

how else do you explain someone who hides in bushes all day to lecture professional drivers how to drive? and then brags about how they have basically attempted to destroy the livelihood of a working man with their speeding tickets and points that will stay with him for 3-5 yrs

Well there are good Cops out there and there are some bad cops out there. Education does not make the cop or the truck driver. It is what some may recall as "Common Sense" of which does not seem to be all that common.

I hate bad Cops and I can't say as I would give any respect to a bad truck driver. But, that is the way I am. :biggrin_25523:

squid, clearly you do not know what it is to drive a truck. even law enforcement see what goes on out there. how can you be so nieve?? you seem to be looking for a fight. truck drivers can be your best friend or your worst enemy and it is your choice. you do not realize how much this country depends on trucks, or how much of your daily life is due to trucks. you need to be enlightened dear one. before you start downing the truckdr iver, why not ride with one for a week?? law enforcement has ride programs and alot of the trucking companies have rider programs. if you did i am certain your view would see differently. we don't need officers who judge arbitrarily, or who don't know what they are talking about. i know i am wasting my time trying to curb the rough edges off this "law enforcement fellow" (if he is infact an officer), but what the heck, i am sitting in atlanta waiting for a run anyway.:biggrin_25522:
