Why are Volvos so much better than all other Class 8 trucks?

fwiw, pretty much all of the highest mileage 4 wheelers are Volvos. I do realize that this doesn't necessarily translate to big trucks. I find the association of Volvo as a brand with weakness or homosexuality to be strange given how durable the cars were back in the day. Volvo 240 is a friggin tank.

What type of places do you normally park? Don’t have to give me specifics if you don’t want to. Just trying to get suggestions. Sometimes I end up parking in truckstops with narrow parking lanes and getting my mirrors moved about even when I tuck them in. Tired of worrying about parking in these demolishion derpy pit stops.

I’m not Tall Mike (more Short Tim), but I try to avoid truck stops, too. I try to park in interstate rest areas whenever possible (I do like access to flush toilets!). I also try to start my days as early as I can, so that I’m early enough at the end of my day to actually find a space.

Mom and pop truck stops whenever possible. The big fleets usually avoid those places.

    Good plan.
Anymore if you don’t have a parking spot by supper time you’re going to have trouble parking.

Ive got my honey holes that seem to be mega free. Well except for me. :D

Mostly I’ll be 10-20 miles away from the big corpo truck stops that are like armageddon. I’ll be parking where it is quiet and safe at a Mom and Pop. Introducing myself to the owners and spending my food and entertainment monies with them.

C'mon, let's get back to loving or hating Volvos. I freakin' love this debate! It's like crashes on Atlanta 285. Never gets old.

My wonderful Volvo is so nice and clean right now, looks good when it's clean. The steering column is rattling it's usual song and I'm idling while I eat lunch wondering how when I'll have to do the injector cups but man is this a great, boring, comfortable truck!

    Valid Point.

For some it's a lifestyle that never leaves the blood. No matter the "tool" a driver chooses to get the job done, How a driver treats their "tool" speaks volumes. Pride in the Ride.

For some just a paycheck, for others a lifestyle.

To me, this is another one of those infuriating arguments. I think a truck is more than a tool - AND I prefer aero trucks for most jobs. Why? Because I admire their ability to do the job well; its the admiration of a well engineered machine. .....And I think that a well appointed aero truck (like a Volvo) is good looking.

For these reasons it ticks me off when I hear classic drivers say that everyone else "has no pride."

This "debate" is as old as when I first started in Aug 1988... It was just chewed on over the CB, Truckstops and Shipper/receivers.
