Floating is shifting a manual without a clutch. You modulate the engine revs to the exact point necessary to shift.
It's far safer to clutch in and out of gears, which is why it's there in the first place.

I haven't had a modern car that was a standard transmission. All my manual shift cars were older vehicles with manual clutches that would float shift just fine.FlaSwampRat Thanks this.
