Why are Volvos so much better than all other Class 8 trucks?

I’ve never greased a kingpin. I suspect the horrible tire wear that I had on the Kenworth was the result of it still having the original shocks on at 430,000 miles.

Yea I meant balljoints. Long day and I greased my 5th wheel earlier and had kingpin on the brain for some reason.

Volvos do have a lot of good points but from my personal experience, Ive just had better mechanical service from pete 379s with 3406 engines. I have driven several of them that had well over a million miles on them when I got out of them. Just cant beat a good cat.

I get the truck lubed every 15,000 miles which includes the ball joints. I checked and there us plenty of grease.

My biggest regret since going into business 5 years ago......going new out of the gate instead of starting out with a good old used hood. But, I can't change that. Let's face it, new trucks are what they are.... but considering the circumstances, I'm glad I went with my vulva.

As quirky and hungry for money as it can be.....it does circles around everything else of its era (in my area and application) 500k miles on my '14 VNL430 with 600 D16 and I haven't put more than a gallon of oil TOTAL in it since new. Yes, it needs injectors every 2 years. But it hasn't blown up like every comparable ISX I know of in my area. Thank God for this site, lots of good info on here to minimize the shaft you will take from time to time in owning one. That's any truck though.

With a bit of tuning and exhaust work, these newer volvo engines are spectacular. Its pulls like a 6NZ and jakes like an ISX or better. For all the above reasons, I plan on hanging onto this one and running it into the ground. I have an I shift and I love that too - but will drop it like a bad habit and swap an 18 in when it eventually blows up and they want 25k for a new one.

No. Its $35 at TA and my wife and I net between 5 and 7K per week so I can afford it. It’s Not worth carrying around a grease gun and squirming across piss soaked truck stop asphalt to do it myself.

Man 35$ (45ish cad) is too rich for my blood....only takes 15 mins while waiting at a shipper! I get it though....

All of my shippers and receivers are secure military installations so not an option.I’m also never near home when the 15,000 mile interval comes up and getting it done at the TA provides written documentation for my warranty. It makes it easy to be lazy.
