A truck stop isn’t obligated to give a free spot to park. If you don’t like it and aren’t willing to come off $15 or $20 bucks occasionally to park, go somewhere else. Problem solved. It’s called supply and demand, chains wouldn’t do it 1. If they weren’t seeing a demand. 2. And people are willing to pay for the service.

I don't get up that way often but I was up there last year and that 83 diner is a really nice place to stop and get a good hot meal. It was crowded too but that was before the scamdemic. I had breakfast one morning before loading and it got me all the way back to Knoxville before I was hungry again.

While that is true with some of the busier truck stops like at the TA on the I - 10 In LA could you imagine how hard it would be to get a parking spot if it was free you will find the quieter truck stops will not charge as they need the business where as those in the busier areas like the TA in Los Angeles can charge for it and get away with as there is no other competition now if for example another rival truck stop was built nearby offering free parking that may change the circumstances a little.
