Why are we so concerned with fuel prices?

@blairandgretchen so far your poll is showing a rather positive attitude.
It makes me think that the fuel price itself is not as scary as the rate recess in the last few weeks. More specialized people like yourself, where distance and fuel mileage is not such a big factor as with the dry van freight, do not have to worry as much. Whereas running spot market with dry van, where often lesser rates can be offset by running more miles, can't dodge the effects from higher diesel price. You simply cannot escape the higher fuel cost by running more. I expected that the poll results would have shown more of "not sure" and way more of "yes". I guess those with 4K per month equipment loans and 2K per month insurance installments did not participate in the poll.

I just woke up from a nap, so I still may be groggy. I have 3k per month equipment cost and 2k per month insurance cost. I too play in the specialty segment. While we don’t focus on mpg fuel cost are definitely in the forefront of our mind. When you get 3.5 mpg and fuel is 5.36 per gallon it definitely gets your attention.

And I simply can’t “run” more miles. I only have so many daylight hours to work and with city/county curfews that’s even shorter. I would love to pull a van right now. You have far more ways of lowering your fuel bill than I do.

Like I said. I just woke up, so we may be saying the same thing. Idk

Fuel prices go up more and I will park. I'm ok with parking or doing local runs. Put $1000 in a single fill-up this week. That's doubled from a year ago.

If you’re at last year rates then I’d park too

Mentioned it a few pages back
My rates went up a better percentage than my fuel cost have. At least for now and the past couple years

About the same right now, jumping up in the end of the month due to bushes and tree deliveries to 9 plus a mile for multidrops
