Why aren't loads priced according to weight?

    Whenever something is priced to be shipped it is priced by weight. I've shipped cargo myself and the carriers always figure the charges by the weight of the item. On most loads posted on load boards they all pay the same per mile no matter the weight. A lot of the loads the weight is left off for some reason. As a owner operator you can make more money by hauling light loads, it's easier on equipment which lowers expensive maintenance costs, better fuel mileage, ect. Makes no sense to me to be expected to haul a heavy load when I can get a light one for the same low rate. I can & have carried over 46,000lbs in my trailer before legally, but have to be paid good to do it.

    THEY ARE... Its just that once a molesting brokerage gets their paws on it, They do whatever they feel fit, Now,their are a few honest brokerages out there that will let the carrier bill them accordingly by weight and fsc..but more times than not, The broker Bids the freight or accepts a contract from the customer..'

    And Whola, Their Motto is "I'll get these suckers moving 47,000 pounds for $1.62 a mile"

    Try Not to use the loadboards if you can.....They areChock full of Subpar freight and brokerages that have no business integrity whatsoever

    Most LTL is still priced class/weight/break. The requirement for that died with de-regulation and contract authority.

    While their might be some truth to that wichris.......ALL of my outbound steel is billed on weight, Always has, Even F.O.B. , or 'collect' shipments based on weight billing

    A lesson here for the newer carriers, don't be fooled by 3rd parties putting their pawprints on freight

    Still many shippers that operate that way. But the requirement no longer exists. Think of the 1-2 pallet expidite that pay full rate. Imagine the rate if it was still C/W/B.

    Just curious on the steel. Is it just by the CWT or is it by class also?

    some loads DO pay by weight. and the rates are so low. it's not even funny.

    think cars and wood.

    Actually snowy...........you hear a lot of drama when it comes to timber(Wood products)....

    Keep in mind, When you get that lumber Load from your local 3pl or 'buyer'...They grab their 30%(or more)........I know your probably thinking, "But I used a place called xxxx lumber co"

    Don't be Fooled snowwy..Theres MONEY in Wood products, You Have to deal with the lumber buyer direct (usually the sawmill).......or the consignee, which is rare
