Why can't we come together and create a comany that works for the driver?

I for one am a risk taker. I also dont need an extra 125000 a year I just want to cover all expenses (living and bussiness) and have a life. The having a life part seems to be the hardest to come by. I have thought of own authority but insurance is one of the biggest killers and finding the loads. I enjoy doing what I do just wish I did not have to do it so much to pay bills. I run flatbed but would love to get a step deck and run tall and wide.
I agree it would be great if we could come together and form a true company thats main goal is to help drivers. Personally I dont see it but willing to hear more and if concepts are solid and depending the kind of investment might be worth a try.

 

I agree. I'm home every weekend so I can't complain too much. But the thing is I'm sure every company out there started just like this idea - to be the best company, to help drivers, to be all focused on what the drivers want and need etc. but you gotta remember the is a business and in business you can't be buddy buddy and succeed. It's a good idea and am following this to see where it goes. I'm all for new ideas and different ways of thinking.

 

Btw I have hear oc one company that switched to employee owned and from the few I have talked to they love it one or two out and backs done for the week. Making good money. Both guys I talked to say they are there till they quite driving.

 

Now when you say "employee owned" what exactly does that mean? No bosses? No management? Who's runnin the show? There has to be someone on top making decisions.

There is a differance between being buddy buddy and treating with respect and helpfull. I get home almost every weekend so its better than it was as a company driver or the otr construction job.
I wont down this company as they are doing a pretty good job and they do help on repairs just take some loads that are not wise but I cant turn down back loads just out going. But then sometimes they get me great ones such as this one four lumber packs going 30 miles and my share is about $270

 

From the way they explained it the company was going to shut the doors and the employees banded togeather and invested some how to keep it going and they split the cost across the board of maintaing offce staff and such I am not sure any real details.

Shares in the company will be distributed to all 2,700 employees at no cost; Annett said he will remain the majority owner of the shares. About 450 of the company's employees live in Iowa. "Now, as employee owners they will reap the benefits of their good work as the company continues to grow and prosper." Ive worked for a so called employee owned company. It was a joke, If it was a true employee owned company I should have been able to submit an idea or change and it should have been put to a vote with all the employees. Never happened.

I had a idea for streamlining and cost savings in the maintenance department along with eliminating a hurdle that took 2 days to work around before work could proceed on the job. Those 2 extra days cost $10K in lost production. The VP never even considered it because it would hurt his inflated numbers because he couldnt use the workers from that machine for his department for those 2 days.
