With Eaton Fuller and any other major company its all about the economics what makes money for them is what they will stick with, and what brings about a loss they are going to discontinue. 13 speeds and 18 speeds seem to be in more demand for transport companies as a result Eaton Fuller in there own best interests would focus on producing those gear boxes.
why did they use too make 15 speed trannys then stop what were they made for if the use too makethem

I called a friend I thought was in Texas building locations, but he is in tx, but pipelining at monahans instead.
he didn't know any names but said they is plenty of location work going on down there right now, and it would probably be easy to get a belly working.
I would do some checking and even go on a two or thre day ride and find out what was going on, if I was you.piston757 and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
Number one problem, not a fuel mileage transmission

Probably not, but unless I need to I don't split the gears in my 13 or 16 either one half the time, so no different. lol Actually it is better, it has a higher od I am pretty sure.

I will say this the first truck of my own I ran over the road (coast to coast, north to south, van and flatbed) was my 1989 Peterbilt 379. 425 3406B cat and 15 over, 3.70 rears. Best shifting, smoothest shifting, nicest running truck I’ve owned and drove. (I’ve owned 4 trucks) in got about 6-6.5mpg out of that old B model running about 60-65 MPH everywhere I went. Some people hate them some love them, I truly loved mine. Of course I enjoy my 550 E model and 18 speed I run now in my 1997 379. I’d love to find a older truck with a 3406B and 15 in it again to toy around with and possibly run.

I have an 89 379 with a 4mg B model, 15 speed @ .79 OD, tall tires, 4:10 rears, retarder, that I used for pulling an RGN while building our other truck.
The absolute smoothest nicest shifting transmission that I have driven. My only complaint is how fast reverse is unless in deep reduction, and getting caught between gears on long pulls in the hills. Just have to learn patience and back off a bit. Oh, and switching back and forth between the against the dash pattern and typical h pattern of our 18 speeds.wore out Thanks this. -
Wheelbase and price?
Do you sometimes try to shift the 18 backwards after getting use to the 15 too. lolOxbow Thanks this. -
I think it is around 240 WB. Used to be a sleeper truck, but it is a day cab now with headache rack.
It's the white one.
Regarding price, I haven't thought much about it. I bought it at a Richie Bros. auction in December 2014 for 19k. We put new tires on it, a wet kit, new u-joints, and that's about it. Oh, put a BW 177148 turbo on it as well. I guess I would be thinking around 15k.Last edited: Aug 19, 2019
