Hi j, you nailed it right there, (although you're shouting). One has to remember, it's a business, and to be successful, you have to sell yourself. I've known and worked for a couple of friend's that were O/O's and dedicated accounts, and they remained with them, because they bent over backwards for them, and it's piece of mind for the dedicated shipper, knowing they don't have to worry if their freight will be delivered. Driving the truck is the least of the duties of an O/O.
You are so right. Over the years I have been dedicated ( in more ways than 1 ) to small shippers. These companies want good, flexible, reliable, friendly , caring people to service their customers and keep them happy. Doing them favors pays off nicely, often in premium rates.
Finding small shippers is not all that hard, and when you do try to solve THEIR problems, then they will learn to depend on you.
If I had to lease to a company and haul a mega-carriers freight, I would find another occupation.
Why did you become an O/O?
