Amen brother, I love driving a truck too. After working on cars for 15 years and trying factory work, I wish many times that a started driving alot earlier.

If driving for me is no longer in the cards though, I think I'll get my pilot's lisence. If I fail at that, I probably won't have anything to worry about after that.

I have been a professional driver most of my adult life. As my handle says, I was in the taxi business. Drove and dispatched both in a large and medium market. My ex husband decided to go back to driving and I went with him and fell in love with it. Now, my only regret is that I didn't start sooner. I am perfectly suited for this job. I have no children, grand children, spouse, or other emotional distraction. I have nowhere to be, no one asking how soon I will be home. I am perfectly happy with that! I have minimum financial demands. My new truck is a palace. Life is good for me....

I always wanted to drive a truck but waited until my kids had grown and moved out.

I started driving in my early 50's and it was fun for around two years. I was still learning and saw a lot of the country but after a couple of years, it was no more than a job.

When I reached retirement age, I quit driving and contrary to what a lot of people say, I don't miss it at all.

It did make me a better driver, even in my pick-up. I see things way down the road that most 4 wheelers will never notice and it keeps me safe out there.

Well I’m a little different, I spent most of my life working on trucks and just a few years driving back in the early 70s. I retired from working on trucks a while back and decided I didn’t really want to retire, no family around, wanted to see the country but also do something constructive. I had my CDL since the 70s but no real experience since then so I went through the truck school for the training and certificate. I hooked up with an owner operator and we are running team and I just love it. He has his own authority plus some pretty good hauls however we have been averaging being out three to four weeks at a time, and that has been a blast for me. I only wish I had done this a long time ago, but I can really see where this is the kind of job that it either fits you or you will hate it, however that is just my opinion. I love the freedom this job provides along with the responsibilities that it entails. Since I’m from California my biggest hurtle is getting use to driving in the snow and ice, haven’t had much yet but it is coming. We have spent several weekend laid over in different towns and always were able to find something interesting to do. I’m an armature photographer and this is the perfect job for my hobby.

I grew up around trucks and I have never really done any other job, I have been drivng trucks of some form or another since I was 18 years old. I first learned to drive at the age of ten, drivng farm tractors and equipment, this experience helped me get a job at a local trucking company as a yard shifter when I was just 18.

This is the job that really helped me learn everything about driving trucks. I knew how to back up so they gave me the job, I taught myself how to operate a truck while doing that job and never really had any formal training. Sometimes they would send me out to deliver a load with a load in the straight truck. I would also help out the mechanic in the shop when I had nothing to do, I learned a lot about how trucks work from him. As soon as I was old enough to drive a tractor trailer I got my licence, soon after bought my first truck and the rest is history.

It's the fallback thing for me. I've always been somewhat interested in it, but not necessarily as an overwhelming desire. My current career path is not happening, at least right now - IT jobs are hard to find at the moment. So, I go with the safety.

I've done a ton of traveling by car in my last couple of jobs over the last 5 years, setting up my own service calls and scheduling/time management. Maybe some of that experience can transfer over to this. So at least I'm not hopeless in navigation.

well, since I was a kid I wanted to drive semi's. Watching BJ and the Bear on TV as a child intrigued me and I knew that was what I wanted to do. I don't even remember the show now but at this stage in my life I finally am able to persue my dream. I can't wait.
