Cause quite frankly, there simply isn't very many career choices that pay any better. At least not without 8 years of schooling.

I realized I was addicted to eating food and sleeping indoors. In trucking you can go from no CDL to full-time job in 3-4 weeks. Once employed you have a place to sleep & an income.

I am a 3rd generation truck driver and driving a truck was all I wanted to do from the time I was knee high to a grass hopper. I do wish I would of considered other careers, now, but I had tunnel vision and am basically stuck in this career after 29 years.

Father was a fifty year airline Captain so figured "driving" was in the blood. "Go easy on the throttles and yoke (the equipment) and give the cargo (in his case 'passengers') a good ride". First learned to handle a Boeing 707 when I was only 12.

After learning to drive after college with two local O/O 's in the late 70's have now had 40 years of on/off driving experience with no tickets or accidents but do not consider it a "career" . . . it's a job to do that fills in blanks when not doing something else.
