I don't dislike automatics. I just like manual in a truck more. That is my preference.

On the Volvo I shift, either select the speed you want the engine brake to maintain in automatic mode and let it do its magic or put it in manual mode and do what you would do in a manual.

actually, driver less trucks will happen. the tech side of it is actually pretty simple, at least for long haul open road stuff.

If you don't trust computer chips, I strongly suggest you don't set foot on a commercial airliner. Those things have hundreds of computer chips just keeping them in the air!.

Hi Redtwin, that's true. I heard the pilot generally just takes off and lands the aircraft, which I think someday will find it's way into trucks. The driver will take it from the interstate to it's destination, and visa versa.

It is funny how things change. I remember, in the 70's when I started, you never heard of automatics in a truck. There was one guy with a Mack dump truck, due to a left leg problem, needed an automatic, and it was constantly seen on the hook, usually with a load on. He became the laughing stock around the gravel pit. Even the guy that owned it had a great sense of humor, and admitted he wished there was a better way.
