In my opinion, automatics don't offer the same level of control as a standard transmission. I've driven both, and had some bad experiences with autos in terms of reliability but when the auto worked the way it was supposed to it was easier to deal with urban centers.
I'm still on the fence between the two. Until the autos prove out the same level of reliability as the standards I'll stick with the standards.
Why do alot of people dislike auto trucks please explain

Ive driven both and for driving OTR a manual would be my preferred choice especially if its a 13speed. For my city job I have now though the allison automatic with torque converter will accelerate as fast as most cars taking off normal.
The main problem I have is it makes me feel like a little girl, a truck just isnt a truck unless your shifting 5 times through an intersection. -
Apparently the two drivers in the pic are in counselling because their truck is an automatic and they feel like little girls as there is no manly clutch.kuzima93, Fullforce, striker and 1 other person Thank this. -
I edited the post, & noted the edit...so maybe no one will suggest you need to go back and re-read. LOL Oh, & yes...I can shift. lol -

GSF was getting autos when I retired....they had 3 I think. I drove one for a couple of trips , just didn't feel right to me.....could I have stayed in it , I guess....did I want to , no. Just didn't feel I was in control , hated the thought of getting caught in slick conditions with an auto.
kuzima93 Thanks this. -

I'm one who has to say, "Thank You Forum, for the edit button. Don't know why I never seem to have the brains to go to Go Advanced, and then to Preview Post, before hitting Submit Reply.
Anyway, back on topic, I learned to drive a stick shift car when I first learned to drive. Never had any desire to have an automatic. Until I had one and made friends with it. I'm betting ti would be the same way in a big truck, as long as the transmission was working properly. -
Big Don Thanks this.

LOL! Well, I didn't want folks possibly reading in thinking he wasn't paying attention or the like. And figured I'd note the edit so he wouldn't think I was setting him up for verbal abuse! LOL
