i will say tho, that there is no reason, NO REASON AT ALL that they cant design a decent shifting mechanism that doesnt require this double clutching ########.
-
I find autos really convenient, I send 300% more texts in a day just because I don't have to set my phone down to shift.
In in all seriousness though I have driven 9s 10s autos and my current ride is a 13. It wouldn't be a deal breaker if a company offered an auto but I will cling to my precious 13 as long as possible. Even when manually shifting an auto I didn't feel as in touch with the truck and didn't feel like I had the same level of control. I will say that at 5 o'clock on a Friday coming through Chicago I would give my own mothers soul to have an auto. -
I haven't double clutched much in the last 13 years...most of the time I just float 'em.

change = new = scary
thats pretty much it.
Imagine how your great great grand pappy reacted to ballpoint pen or typewriters. They probably said the same kind of crap, ranting about how those lazy kids with their typewritiers would never amount to anything. -
And holding those reins, the buggy whip (dual purpose, kid AND critter tamer).
Ah, what we have lost in progress!striker Thanks this. -
They have. I drove a Volvo nearly 20 years ago that had synchromesh gears which didn't require double clutching.
-
these new autos hooked to the DD15 MB 12 speed transmissions
have smoothed out a lot of the objections of earlier autos
they have a creep mode allowing easier docking
better mpg then same trucks set up with 13 speeds
and i have never put mine in manuel in any weather conditions yetstriker Thanks this. -
Hi Tator Tot, actually, there's a reason trucks still use non-synchromesh transmissions. It drastically saves wear on the clutch. If you had a synchromesh trans, like on a car, you'd select a gear that was probably not the right one, and fry the clutch in a week. As far as double clutch, I never did that. I used the clutch twice, when stopped and starting out.

i had to reread your post as it purged thought. I am attempting to recall how often i double clutch or am forced to double clutch.I have to from time to time but i usually do so because i place myself in a situation forcing me to,an example being an inaccurate shift which is infrequent at best.
just curious but what scenarios are you having to double clutch in? why is it such a difficult procedure?"semi" retired Thanks this.
