I drive a governed truck. Nothing I can do about it, most all our trucks are Governed. Some are slower then others but that is because of the drivers doing stupid stuff. The main reason that our trucks are Governed is due to insurance. The company gets a better rate on insurance when the trucks are governed to less then 70 mph. I know this as a fact because my mother used to work in the office and delt with the insurance company.

Oh and yes the insurance company checks on us. They drive down the road tracking our trucks and make notes on how the driver is doing etc and they send letters back to the boss.

I own as of right now 19 trucks. All of my trucks are governed at 65. There are several different reasons for that. First being insurance. Second being fuel savings. Third being some of my trucks go up into Canada and they have to be governed at 65 to go up there.

As an owner my biggest expences are driver payroll, fuel, and maintanece on the trucks. If I can cut the costs in one of those areas (fuel) I can spend more in another (payroll).

Most drivers when given the choice will take higer pay over a faster truck any day. Besides most of the routes we run you would be lucky to run 60 most of the time much less 65.

They own the truck... they call the shots. You wan't a fast truck?... Buy one
When will some of you learn that it's not about how fast your truck goes... It's about the money you make.
Fast trucks don't mean more money.

And yes... I'm castrated at 65. It never ceases to amaze me how many times the same "large car" passes me going across Iowa on 80. A fast truck does you no good if you don't know how to keep the left door shut.
I'll be sure to wave each and every time you pass me.

The truck I drive is castrated and speed turned back, hell even Swift passes me. But tell you a little secret, I make more money than 90% of all company drivers on percentage the road and could care less how fast it goes.

Already had my days of triple digit trucks, now I kick back and listen to the tunes.

I have found that if you plan your trip properly and don't stop at every road house and just get in and do a mile you don't any problems
