why do drivers stand for governed trucks?

    if o/o's want to drive fast & don't mind buying more fuel for driving fast, well good for them, but o/o's today have tougher challenges than company drivers.

    That is absolutely not my attitude at all. I don't speed, I go 75, which is the speed limit. I sure as hell don't do it to show my truck off either. I do it because, say I have a 3 load, 600 mile day, which I often do. Why would I want to work 14 hours, when I can do it in 12 without breaking any laws. Work smarter, not harder

    That kind of math just does not work because Murphys Law is out there along with Mayhem everywhere. If it were a perfect world and every load you picked up was at a freeway on ramp with a posted 75 mph speed limit with no hills, no construction zones, no inclimate weather, no other traffic "including your dreaded slow trucks" and all your loads were dedicated 1000 mi drop / hook, all freeway, right at the on / off ramps and you could refuel and shop, eat etc. where you pick up and deliver those miracle loads?? THEN going 75 mph would likely net more $$ and miles than 65 etc. I might add I doubt you'll find 1000 miles of "continuous" interstate or any other kind of highway in the United States with a 75 mph speed limit not to mention a stretch that contains none of the above.

    But on my planet.. I sit in traffic backups, Have been through NY city and "most" other major Cities in the U.S. during the day, Have sat at shippers / recievers, have had to stop and hang iron on the drives, Stopped at scales, waited for showers, and the list goes on and on.

    That said.. If the speed limit is posted @ 75 or ?? mph, "conditions and traffic permitting" Yep I'll be in the left lane. BUT NOT because I expect to make $5 or ?? per hour / mile etc. but because that's just how I roll (at least while I have the luxury of being ungoverened with a FAT company fuel card)

    Would I, like you walk away from my job if my boss said he was going to throttle my truck to ?? mph? Probably not.. because I like many have responsibilities that don't lend themselves well to the I'll show them attitude. But I hear ya' Jamin22 .. I was young once. Enjoy it while you can.

    You heard that from the one "and probably not only" Underdog .. westbound and out ...

    At one time my truck would go 74 mph, they cut it back to 69 mph, sure it pissed me off. I asked the boss about it and his comment was, "Do you want to drive the truck or not, If not then I can find someone else to drive it".

    The only time the speed thing really bothered me was when I was running the big road ie interstate. The speed limit on ND interstates is 75 mph. All our state roads are 65 mph. I spend alot more time on the state roads then I do the interstate because I can haul more on them and most times I can do it in less miles.

    Oh well got an almost new trailer last year and this year I got a brand new truck that is set at 69 mph.

    like i said in an earlier post; u are an accident waiting to happen; u don't have to drive the speed limit & yes u are right to work smarter not harder HOWEVER, what u fail to realize is 1 little error while driving, simple mistake, etc & then it's KABOOOM!!!!! especially if that trailer is empty. when u haul fuel u should be driving slower to compensate for the sudden things that happen & what if's. like said before ur young & won't get the speed out of ur system til something happens to ur license & can't drive or drastic & take someone's life

    Why is it really anyone else's business why someone chooses to drive a governed truck? Alot of the complaints about driving governed trucks comes from those whose trucks aren't governed. It's very easy for the ones who have to put down the have nots not knowing what their situation or circumstances are. Not everyone is afforded the luxury of being able to get with a company whose trucks aren't governed. Most of us are greatful to have a job and lucky if we a actually like it. Instead of complaining start a company and come back and let us know when your hiring and the qualifications.

    Whatever dude, I'm not an accident waiting to happen because I go the speed limit, and I imagine the insurance company doesn't feel that way either. The accidents editing to happen are drivers I pass everyday with lab tops mounted to their dash
