Going faster doesn't necessarily mean that you will make more money, at least if you own the truck. I can't tell you how many times I have been on a run and had the same truck pass me over and over again. Just yesterday I had a truck pass me several times. The posted speed limit was 70, yet this female driver was doing 75-80 mph. You are much better off staying with the flow of traffic than speeding much faster where you will constantly be slowing and speeding due to traffic. Going faster in this instance would have only saved about 7 minutes on this 90 mile trip. If you are pulling fuel you should be going slower, not faster. On a 1,000 mile trip you would only save about 1 1/2 hours if you travel at 75 mph rather than 65 mph. That assumes that you never have any delays on your trip, no road construction and everyone gets out of your way. Any time you haul liquids, especially combustibles, you need to slow down and give plenty of room for others. If you have not been in an accident, you have been lucky. If you have a misstep or another driver cuts in front of you going much slower, you may not be able to avoid a rollover or worse. Hit something and knock a hole in that tank and you could blow up a city block and kill a lot of people, including yourself. I remember a driver pulling fuel who hit a bridge in Birmingham, AL in order to avoid hitting a car. It exploded into flames, killing the driver. It can happen. The bridge was closed for months. He left a wife and children who will never know their dad. When you pull fuel or any liquid, it doesn't always go the way you want. Make a sudden move and you could easily roll over of the liquid could push you into another vehicle. Do yourself a favoe and slow down. You will arrive safely and make your boss more money due to the fuel savings.

I had stopped at the Wyoming port of entry yesterday for my permit, a drop deck all dressed out with a lift on it passed me 5 times from Cheyenne Wyoming to Utah across I 80. I found it funny because every time it would pass it was at a pretty good clip. we were parked beside of each other at the Utah port of entry also. I never did figure out how I never passed him but he passed me five times.

It is sort of like the race between the tortoise and hare. The slower steady pace will win the race every time.

Next time you might not blow a tire on the middle axle of your trailer. It could be a steer tire that blows right off...

Of course that won't happen to you, I know...

People do use their laptops as a GPS and as their log books. Nothing wrong with having it mounted to their dash.
