You say ur sticking up for the comapny guys but what about the small fleet owner with 5-10 trucks that will go out of business if one of his driver rear ends someone goin 80.You also have to remember the big companies putting brnd new drivers on the road would u want your family in a car in front of that new driver goin 80 down the highway.(I dare you to say u wouldnt mind) Its all about insurance do you know the savings for a small company or o/o it makes a big difference thousands of dollars and you forget it also keeps his drivers from getting speeding tickets and keeping there jobs think before you speak. Not being rude but just think.

Now excessive speed was a factor in 8% of truck accidents. Does 20% of 8% impress you? Keep in mind most accidents have multiple factors. If a driver had his cruise set a couple of mph over the speed limit and dozed off or swerved and hit something when he tried to pick something up he dropped speed would be a factor.
I'm more concerned with the 80% of accidents where the "excessive" speed is under 65 mph. These are accidents on ramps , in construction zones , and in 55mph zones.
That's where the trucks you see speeding most are the governed trucks of USX , Schneider , PRIME , etc. -
I have drove triple digit trucks and governed trucks on the some of the same run's for 20 years as an ltl driver. No matter how fast your truck is you are not going to make it to the destination that much faster then governed truck. Especially seeing how you spend most of your speeding time worried about the po po and stopping at every truck stop to play the games and hang out. Yes I would like the trucks set at a speed that makes sense but what actually is it? If you have 100,000+ trucks set at the same speed think of the drag racing you would have on the highways. As long as I am not paying the truck payment and drive for someone else they can set it at what they want.It is my choice to stay or find another ride.

Here's my $.02....I don't buy the fuel, pay for the truck, pay for the upkeep or anything else. My truck is governed at 65, but has a big enough engine to let me pull hills well enough that I normally walk past most others loaded to a similar weight, and is fairly nicely equipped. If they want me to run 65 then I will. What gets me is guys that actually PAY for their trucks (mostly L/P trucks to be fair) being governed at 60-65 MPH. If you're buying the fuel and paying the payments, if you'd like to waste money by running 80 mph...that's your prerogative and your right to do so.
