We have Governed trucks for many years now, I still rate them as downright dangerous, apart from the monotony of being stuck at exactly the same speed as everyone else there have been plenty of accidents where the vehicle inside decided to speed up a bit leaving the guy outside stranded on the wrong side of the road, but the boredom really does cause alot of problems, you could be staring at the rear of the same truck for hours and that's one reason alot of drivers here fall asleep however 80 in a fuel tanker? That's madness!

Just because you have experience, doesn't mean you know how to use it!!

The government people from ontario went to Europe to study speedlimiter effects and concluded it worked fine over there..!! Now all trucks to enter Ontario (and Quebec) needs to be governed at 105 clicks (65 mph)...

I'm pretty sure they didn't talk to European truckdrivers what their idea was about speed limiters...:biggrin_2556:

Our biggest problem is we are governed to the speed limit of 55, so if we meet a guy doin say 45 and try to overtake he can often not be minding what he's doing and speed up again, in the mean time the traffic that was behind you is now behind him so getting back behind isn't an option, I've seen some close ones where the overtaking truck gets back into to his lane before a vehicle comes around the corner, then there's the sheer boredom, I find my mind wandering at times and that can't be good for safety, there's alot of rear end crashes too ,for this exact reason I suspect.

speed does not make drivers make bad decisions. The ones causing accidents are typically making bad decisions do this regarless of the speed thier traveling.

It is not about speed its about waiting till its clear to pass, being aware how fast the vehicle is approacing. Do not pull out in front of someone traveling faster than you. It does not matter wheater its a four wheeler, empty or not. wait till its clear with your signal on. I have and do on a regular bases call trucks out to pass as Im approacning, but sometomes Im loaded and you may think Im empty and over you come. I cannot count the times that I have had close calls because somone did the crap of 3 blinks.

Normally after they finish there pass I like to go around them and slow to a crawl then take off. Im at 80,000 but I have a open motor.

If your loaded climbing a hill you have no business slowing down traffic to your speed to pass. On 59 they are writing trucks up for impeading traffic, and reckless for passing when they do not meet the legal requirements.

i know all about it, I'm from Holland, remember..??

Same thing happens here on 401 in Ontario. Every truck doing 65, as fast as possible. Empty trucks passing the loaded ones uphill, loaded ones passing them again downhill. Sometimes they end up with the same speed beside each other and both don'twant to let the other go. It's just like war...

    I'm doing 60...

Then some pass as the speed limit lowers on the 402 approaching the Blue Water Bridge because OPP ignores speeders there .
