Why do flatbed over van/reefer? I don't see the extra money

Some people like to work hard, not smart. I look forward to your letters fltbdrs.

 

I've done van, flatbed, and reefer. I like reefer the best. I like the night deliveries, and reefer the most steady money of the 3 in my opinion. Flatbed is seasonal, and dry van has its dry spells, pardon the pun. People always gotta eat, so in come the reefers. In trucking, people get caught up on what pays the most money. It all pays around the same when you look at what you made at the end of the year. For me, it's about what pays the most steady money. There's also a part of me that thinks that it isn't so much the trailer you pull, it's how you run and how quick you can make your truck available again

 

I know plenty of flatbedders who would take issue with this comment about not working smart. But we do like to work hard, you got that right.

To me, not working smart would be the steering wheel holders who slam the doors and then hammer down in their flip flops and grease-stained pajamas, licking the windows while they clog up the hammer lane at 62 mph.

 

Some of us enjoy what we do... it would be hard for me to pull a van or reefer. Because it is a different mentality than flatbed... i enjoy getting a load put on my deck and figuring out how to secure it and tarp it. It is an entire different mental process and it really makes u think... flatbedders work smart and hard ... especially the bigger loads and heavier stuff and more specialized stuff u haul, it becomes a huge thinking game with routes and bridge laws and understanding the limits of ur equipment . To say flatbedders arent working smart i think u dont understand the nature of what we do...plus ive never seen a reefer on the side of a mountain.

But i’m curious, in the first one your dash is saying 30 mpg? Am I reading that right? Lol.

 

Lol yeah that is the "current trip gauge" . It shows in real time what ur mpg is.. And at that moment i was coasting downhill so it says 30mpg lol . Im lucky to get 7mpg most of the time

 

To my surprise I seen this Van driver go rushing very fast into the TA couple days ago. Figured he was in a hurry to get on the toliet.

I should have known better. He runs up to the popeyes counter and tells them he's starving.

I'll stick with doing flatbed. I rest my case.

 

That's beautiful, I actually took a load to a sight in Colorado earlier this year, it was in Weston. It was load of some sort of non hazardous chemical. I cant remember off top. It went to the Trinidad Water treatment facility. I walked to the edge of the driveway just to get a taste of that clean air.

 

Lord have mercy on that poor table!
