Are you asking all these questions because you want to be an O/O or are you just curious? Maybe your bored and want to know good truck rates. What do you consider a good truck rate?

There are several free load boards that you don't need a DOT# to use. Search free loadboard and try each one. I think Trulos and free freight search allow you to view without a DOT#.

123Loadboard will allow a free trial with no DOT,
DAT also gives you 30 days without DOT although it shows you less info than if you had an actual sub.

It’s funny people will tell you do your research before you become O/O and then Ask why you want the access too see at least an example of loads in home area.

I dont know, maybe the load boards are running your info through the DOT, FBI & Secret Service data base [sarcasm], but I'm betting their system just needs some numbers in it. I'd try just making up a DOT number if I wanted in. I guess its worth a try.
If you're worried about unintentionally using someone's real number, 9999999 seems like a good DOT number to try.

Just like the MLS in real estate ... they want some control over the industry. Some control over THERE business the business that they make there living from. There are a lot of problems in the industry with double brokering. How many people do you want in it looking around ???

If I don’t have a CDL and didn’t know you don’t know you at all would you let me take your truck for a spin around the parking lot ? Just want to take it for a short little spin around the parking lot just to try it out. Just want to see if I like it or not.

I think you are probably right on there. I spoke with Truckstop about their load board and they don’t allow access to non-dot folks because they want to ensure those viewing them need access. They wish to control that and I agree that is their prerogative.

I don't think the random # will work. Could be wrong tho. Most of the posted rates are trash. Maybe 20% of the postings on dat have the rate posted anyways
