I think we all understand that not getting paid by the hour means we are working for free for a lot of things. It's BS but it's what it is..

Sure if you can go find a $15/hr job and get 30 hrs of OT pay each week you would make more..

Do you know of any employer who is gonna give you 30hrs of OT each week?

The problem is these jobs don't exist these days or they are so few and far between they are unicorns for the average worker.

Meanwhile trucking jobs are a dime a dozen, and the megas will get you in a truck with no experience and get you your cdl.. of course people will work for them even if it's not top pay.

Those kind of jobs do exist but they're hard to find. They sure won't be advertised on CL or anwhere else for that matter. They're usually local or short-haul jobs and the drivers generally come home every day.
We pay our guys by the hour and 30 hours of OT isn't unusual during the busy time of the year. Things slow down in the winter to forty hours or so but by then the guys are ready for a break.

I keep doing the math and I'm coming up with 6k a month being EXACTLY $1500 week. What am I missing? Is my caluculator broke?

    6k*12 months= 72k
    72k/52 weeks = $1384

There are technically 52.14 weeks in a year too so even that isn't exact. About 4.34 weeks in a month.

And for what it's worth, it was a dedicated account, all drop and hook, no appointments, and a week of preplans every week that stretched the whole week. 24/7 operation on a beer account. The longest I ever waited was to get my bills and 95% of the time, they were in the back of the trailer with the seals. Likewise, you sign the bill and drop it in their mailbox.

It was a great account. Just too heavy for someone who has to pay for their own fuel.

I heard a statistic that over 90 % of new drivers are not in the industry after 1 year. It sounds about right. I don't have a source though.

Why pay more when you get enough new drivers to replace the quitting drivers? Megas don't advertise on everything & everywhere for nothing. They do it so the next 500 newbies think there are 4 trucking companies AND "all trucking companies are the same".
