And I agree with this. It may look good on paper, but when you put a computer in an otherwise human environment, there's gonna be issue. When you take the human control out of a human based environment, is gonna mess up everything about both the human & the computer guidance.
Eventually, it puts the driver in a position where he doesn't have to think. The computer does everything for him. It makes people stupid. That's the problem we have today. Nobody has to do anything anymore. Either a computer or someone else always does it for them. Therefore they don't know how to do anything. They don't know how to adapt. They don't know how anything works, including physics. They become ignorant... then stupid. That's why we have people who don't know how to do anything anymore. And it's just going to get worse, making people more & more stupid. Believe me, you ain't seen stupid yet. Just wait 10 or 20 more years.
Now days.... "New & Improved".... is seldom improved.
Why do people speed up when you try to pass them?

I drove a Penske Truck for a week. It had adaptive cruise control, along with automatic braking, lane assist, Beeping buzzing, PITA. I particularly dislike when a passing Truck cuts back in front too soon. It’s rude and ignorant. Suddenly I’m at risk of a ticket for following too close. Not that common, but I have been warned once in Ohio. It’s considered careless driving in a cmv. Right up there with 15 over. With the adaptive cruise, they cut over, Truck starts beeping, and applies the brakes. Talk about insult to injury!! Lol. I see that practice getting worse, as more Trucks are equipped with this great technology. One more weapon to use against one another. My fleet Truck barely passes your fleet Truck, despite you trying to hang me out to dry. I cut over too soon, slow you down. Take that from one wannabe NASCAR Restricter plate racer to another.

When you're behind the truck you want to pass, you have zero wind resistance.
When you pull out to pass, you have lots of wind resistance and may not be able to speed up enough to pass quickly.
If the driver you want to pass is on cruise control, then that driver is doing nothing wrong.Flat Earth Trucker, SmallPackage, Another Canadian driver and 3 others Thank this. -
If it is a 4 wheeler they just lost their place due to inattentive operation or no situational awareness.
They aren't professionals and we are!
If it's a rig it's either due to acute arseholeism or they were never taught or aware of proper truck driver etiquette.
If being passed you let that driver complete the pass period!
If you've lost focus and slowed, let traffic pass then carry on. It ain't a race.
Similarly if a driver moves left to facilitate your merge onto the highway, you let them back over in front of you. It's a courteous driver with the right of way that moved over for you now return that courtesy.
Let the traffic settle down then overtake if needed.Last edited: Jan 13, 2024

One reason why sometimes people speed up is that the speed limit changes as they're being passed.

Because they can.....
Another Canadian driver and Coolbreezin Thank this. -
I believe people are buttnuggets and that they exercise the "Me" mentality. Thats why they will tailgate/draft, push on you in congested traffic, so on. They have no respect for others. But now I just accept that they are on their phone and dont realize how slow they are going until you pass them. then they speed up. Theyre still buttnuggets, but I employ the most logical reason for their idiocy.

A lot of people simply refuse to be passed by a Cascadia, especially if they are driving a Pete 389

The descent to least common denominator as the standard is happening across all aspects of our society. Those behind this have forgotten the idiom: "Those who think they have made something idiot-proof have underestimated the power of stupidity"
And while speeding up during a pass is a long time issue, the worst offenders nowadays are those on their smartphone. Especially when the phone is held down where the road is out of the field of view, they tend to use whatever is in their peripheral vision as their speed reference. They're the same ones who will come up beside you and then hang there without ever completely the pass.Bud A., Another Canadian driver, 201 and 5 others Thank this. -
Most new truck drivers are just careless/reckless 4-wheeler drivers in a truck wih 3 weeks of "training" and a smartphone.
