Those days ended when social media began.

Not the friendly forums like this one, but stuff like twitter and facebook.

If I effortlessly catch you from behind and can see I'm doing 72 and you're doing 65, the pass should be quick. If it's not, it ain't wind resistance causing the problem.

Like I said in the OP, I'm not talking about terrain causing issues. But if I catch you from behind so quickly I don't even have time to read the name on your back doors or notice that you obviously don't know how to tarp well, it shouldn't take 5 minutes to complete the pass. I always say if I catch you from behind I should be able to pass you unless YOU do something to alter that ability.

Because they might not be against the governor. I travel a lot of 55mph roads. Some are 4 lanes. I pass trucks doing 52 and when I do they speed up to 65, their governed max. I'm not going to get a ticket racing an idiot in a JB Hunt truck in a 55 zone.

I've also had numerous big rigs pass me, some blow my doors off only for me to pass them 5 miles later lollygagging along in the right lane. I don't understand it. Nobody pays attention to their speed anymore?

Oh yea, that chaps my goat. I had one little girl in a 4 wheeler do that 5 times between Westlake and Jennings on I-10. We both pulled into the Loves in Duson and I walked right past her. She was on the phone the ENTIRE time she drove. She would slow down to 69, I would pass her, usually 3 or so minutes later she'd pass me and the process repeated 5 times in 30 miles. By the time I got to Duson I think they could hear me cursing in the building before I got parked. It took EVERYTHING I had not to confront that little #####. God and God alone gave me the strength to walk past her and not say something. Oh yea, in Loves, she was STILL gabbering on her phone. She was young, like barely college age.

For those kind of inconsiderate eggheads I try to determine if I’m lighter than him or heavier. If I’m lighter I’ll wait until a nice steep uphill and gear down and make my move there. I’ve caught them many times with a phone in their hands. If it’s a flat grade I’ll set them up for failure I’ll initiate the pass when I see a slower vehicle up ahead or if I know we’re going to enter an area that gets congested because of the heavy merge in traffic so they will have to hit the brakes. I shouldn’t have to do that but hey if you don’t have any courtesy for me I have none for you.

Because they're not "up against" the governor when you're approaching them. Then when you go to pass, they speed up. It works out for them most of the time until they meet an O/O that can just blow their doors off for a few seconds, get back over, and just slow down to the speed they were going.

How many of ya'll have seen governed megas out on the open roads lollygagging along and when they come to a construction zone blow through against the governor, not even slowing down? I see that ALL THE TIME. The biggest offenders are the LTL carriers pulling doubles.

Or the same thing when coming to a city where the speed limit drops like through Birmingham and it's 50, I'm doing 53, they're doing 65. On the interstate where it's 70, they do 65.

If you can answer why you're doing 53 in a 50, it will probably sound similar to why people think they should do 65 in a 50.

It always makes me chuckle too. I am a pretty slow goer most of the time and most people are blowing my doors off in the hammer lane, but occasionally you'll get that bumbling bozo that can't seem to maintain a speed that even a slow poke like me is happy with and not lugging the motor down too far with the trans in overdrive. So you wait for the perfect moment to jump around him and go by, and then suddenly he figures out which pedal makes the truck go and thinks he's driving a race truck now and it takes 70+ mph to get rid of him. It's like c'mon bud let it go.

I guess some people always have to be the fastest. I've done well by always trying to be only the SECOND fastest driver on the road; I still make good time, but never get pulled over.....
