some of those those old syncro gearboxes have really hard shifting and it is question if their syncro were easier to shift at all, like 1st volvo f12, zf were not soft too.
scania had quite easy gearboxes these days not much worst than today.
i more like that gearstick remain on engine while you raise cab, like on f2000, it shifts more precise, only problem is seal/sponge around hole went bad quite often.
dont see any problem in servoshift, only bad thing is comfort shift on tga.
as for linkage, my father truck was 24year old when factory joints were replaced, that is truck that is shifted about 1500-2000 times per day while working in city, so i dont see that as problem.
as for fuller, it was very difficult to sale one as used truck here and it had lower value, we had 1984 man 19.361 with twinsplit. and latter one 4 syncro
Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

it was still available on fe2000, dont know for latter.
we had 98 man 4 with 16speed fuller syncro. it was easyto shift it when cold (zf dont want to go in 5th when it is cold). gears were very close it was easy to miss gear. when customer went on test drive it was slight downhill he was driving on low speed in 8L and wanted to downshift into 7th, but miss whole row and end up in 5th and rev it over 3000. it was not easy to get parts for it, most of trucks that had them what i know for were replaced with zf. -
btw forget to write eaton is harder to shift ( requiered force) than zf from same time especially hard to get into reverse at that 4ser had to stand up bit from seat to put it in reverse. zf in age of mid to late 90s can be shifted with 2fingers. had it till 2011 i thinkLast edited: May 25, 2018

btw zf had no syncro transmission too but it is extremely rare they were K series, styer had them more often than any other brand. my father had mb with it in 70s, i think they were avilable till early 1990s

recently we have been discussing about doghouses
here is what there is really inside, everything else is made to make ergonomics and instrument panel toward driver with convenient drawners and open storage
KVB and daf105paccar Thank this. -
AK6-80 with splitter given it 12 forward speeds. Later models had synchronized zf 12 speed.
When larger engines with higher torque were introduced, ZF or Eaton/Fuller Roadranger were the options.98989 Thanks this. -
The earlier MAN COEs sold here had 12 & 16 speed ZF's with the Gearstick on the Steering column..
ZF parts were hideously Expensive. Most ended being retrofitted with 10 & 15 speed Roadrangers.
if you were a bit tired was very easy to get lost.. -
