I don't think White had anything to do with it. White was out of the WS picture long before.
Volvo bought White in 1980/1981, Western Star was bought by 2 canadian companies, and continued as an indepedant truck manufacturer.
In 1991 Terry Peabody bought Western Star, that is also the period the Western Stars with DAF cab were produced.
Later Peabody also bought UK truck manufacturer ERF (later sold to MAN), and ERF cabs were used on Western Stars down under.

The DAF95 cab is actually a joint developement of DAF and Pegaso, in the cabtech consortium.
Pegaso bought Seddon Atkinson from International which gave Seddon Atkinson access to the cab as well. Sidenote: International had shares in DAF at that time as well, but had to sell a lot of assets to prevent bankruptcy, the DAF shares, Seddon Atkinson, farm equipment branch (to Tenneco/Case), etc.
Later on Iveco bought Pegaso (and Seddon Atkinson with it), and Pegaso and Seddon Atkinson started using Iveco cabs.
When Steyr needed a new cab, they also considered the cabtech cab (instead of developping their own new large cab), and at least one prototype was built (with Pegaso front grill).
But MAN bought Steyr not much later, and heavy Steyrs kept using the old cab for a number of years. Later Steyrs were rebadged MAN's.
Small MAN's (and ERFs) used Steyr's small cab.
Old Steyr cab is still produced and a very common sight in China.
Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?
