Enough (ample)power from a mid bore(13L) to compared to other mid bore. It's not a big bore 15L. I don't put down the MX, but I don't try say it is competitive with a big bore.
These were not my words, but from Dan Sonic former vice president of PACCAR. It was no secret that DAF was struggling before PACCAR invested over a billion into them. If I recall from training, early MX were plagued with oil consumption until the APR was installed in top of liner. I think you can agree quality has gotten better since becoming a PACCAR company.

First of all, ample means more than enough, not just enough.

Indeed the very first MX engines had a construction failure, I think it was a problem with the pistons (if I remember correctly). That problem was quickly discovered, an all affected engines were rebuild. Of course all of this happened in Europe, it took several more years before the engines came to the US.

    1. enough or more than enough; plentiful.
"there is ample time for discussion"
synonyms: enough, sufficient, adequate, plenty of, more than enough, enough and to spare More

Problem was carbon packing. Had to change piston and liners to add a APR(anti-polishing ring).

Don't know where caesar got his info but he is spot on.
06 mx had a piston problem which was addressed by Paccar free of charge.
Mind you the only problem was oilconsumptition.

I give those cheesy exhaust manifold/header looking things 3 months of off-highway use before they fall off. I'll extend that estimate to 6 months for on-road.

Perhaps you didn't read the text very well, this is a 1500 hp MX-13. Where do you think this engine is/was used?

Racing or marine. If I recall, they used to get more than that out of Cat C-12.
