Interesting. Maximum hours in the Netherlands (real driving time as recorded by the digital recorder of the truck)

    90 hrs. in two weeks
    56 hrs per week
Daily 9 hrs (twice per week 10 hrs)
    4.5 hrs without a break
A break has to be at least 45 minutes.
One period of 11 hrs resting time per day (in one piece)

    And so on ........

well to be correct in europe we have much more loading and unloading, and other work,

worst of all here is italy, whoever drives to italy, he works a lot,

normal here is to drive 3 trips from bosnia to italy per week otherwise you are not interesting to shipping companies, they all drive wood or its products( pellet planks etc.) in one direction and return steel, ceramic tiles or marble

    that means:
-you woke up usually at 5-5.5h
-fake with magnet and double cards or if you have luck to still have analog tacho even better,
-that means you drive as fast as possible, bringing high risk , often driving 1.5-2x fast more than speed limit
-fuel consumption of 40L/100km is normal there
-that means, you use magnet to not break your pause when loading , waiting for papers or being on border
-you dont secure load as this is time consuming
-that means you dont go to bed before 23h,
-you eat once per day , if you are lucky twice
-you drive work and sleep in same clothes
-you think you will get heart attack every time when you pass next to police/weight inspection/ bag

even worst is driving coffee from italy to montenegro, that is not often work, and when there is season, this is excellent price , so you drive as much as you can, there is no backload because you dont want to lose any trip of coffee

now if that sounds too much to you, there is one company that run often 4trips Itally per week , their drivers look like vampires

car/truck transporters, reffer, livestock are equally bad jobs

but who drive to west europe , it is good job , no stress , no time pressure, not so much frequent loading/unloading , that means you work maybe 10h per day

now some of you might ask why would anyone drive to italy, reason is it pays better....

for example, steel from IT to CRO is 1.75€/km
pellet from BIH to IT is about 1.2€/km
wood can be anything from 1€/km to 1.7€/km

in average you can count on 1.5€/km

usual prices for europe are 1€/km

    mhyn Thanks this.

So, you average about $2.42 per mile, with high fuel and less miles (I assume). No better than here really.

yes it depends, sometimes it is only 350-400km in one direction,

round trip is usually 1400-1500km and you are loaded about 70-75% of that time

wrong math, about 2.62 , but currently dollar is pretty high with usual €/$ conversion this is about 3$/mille, currently fuel is very cheap 1$/L that would be 3.78$/gallon, you need about 580$ for fuel to earn 1750$

with real €/$ conversion and real fuel price you need 870$ of fuel for 2000$

Oxbow and Cat sdp Thank this.

This is a walk in the park compared to some companies I've worked for here in the states, lol. 32- 36 hours straght 1700 mile round trips before you got any sleep. I'm so glad I'm done with that garbage.

Yes, I suppose Paccar isn't selling enough small trucks to make it commercially viable to develop their own small diesel.

It wouldn't surprise me if Paccar is developing a MX-16 engine, at present they don't have an engine in that power range. If 60 metric ton GVW trucks will be legal on EU highways, they will need it.
