I just posted an Italian clip where two of these cranes are used to hoist a semi back on the road.
For rafters on buildings, we use these kind of cranes:

    Wonderful, and hopelessly impractical here.
A short while ago I posted this video:

Look how the much shorter Dutch wreckers have problems to position themselves into a straight angle (as much as possible) to pull the semi back on the road. That angle would be far worse with that rotator, it would pull the truck forward, not sideways.

The boom will have far more reach then a rotator. It can get a car out of a canal etc.

A rotator wouldn’t have to back straight into the ditch........2 would probably pick the whole unit up and set it back on the road......

    Much better.

Doesn't always work though, even in the Netherlands. Another badly planned transport:

Media Tv - Uitzonderlijk transport staat muurvast toerit A15 Rozenburg-Rotterdam (2x video) - Rotterdam

Original is in Dutch, google translation:

ROTTERDAM, 14 AUGUST 2018 TRAFFIC RADIATION
Two trucks stood steadfast since Tuesday morning on the ramp to the A15 at Rozenburg. They transported a wooden construction that is on its way to England for the construction of a sports hall. Due to an error, the vehicles were stuck at the Trentweg, on their way to the ferry.

The services were consulted on a plan of approach. The other traffic experiences some inconvenience as a result of the congestion. RWS decided to build a temporary road. After the evening rush hour we finally managed to get both vehicles back on the right road towards the boat to England. The transport company will be presented with a peppered bill about the costs incurred today.

Don't think you understand the flexibility of the rotator. Why would it have to back up? frm-july2016-img1.jpg

P.S. must be nice to have close tarmac access on 2 sides of a 45 degree roll

Well they did hook up at the bottom of the hill in a wide spot, so it appears obvious that it was planned.

Kinda long, but watch the last 3-4 minutes and see how a rotator works.......
