Most fleets in NA turn over equipment on 3 year cycles so to claim in NA that everyone clings to 20 year old technology shows ignorance. Large fleets can easily afford when a unit goes down and they do embrace the latest technology good or bad.

So IMO, only thing that makes EU and US trucks different is.... the law!

Of course. If you have a transport company, and a contract for just-in-time delivery to let's say a car factory, then it doesn't matter if your trucks have lots of unexpected downtime. Production comes a hold, thousands of workers can't do their job, who cares. Good thinking!!!

Large fleets can NOT afford when a unit goes down unexpectedly. They can and should afford proper scheduled maintenance to prevent trucks from going down unexpectedly. And yes, today's maintenance is much more high-tech then 20 years ago.

But I'm afraid your colleague did offer us a good insight in the mind set of many NA truckers.

Length laws are the main difference. Once those changed we evolved to what we have today. Mainly because we have room. You do make some nice stuff, I own 2 E class Benz , and a VW. But I am not going to insist any one else drive what I like . Like some...

Actually time critical expedite automotive is a niche of mine. Around here the big companies covering dedicated lanes have trucks go down all the time. No big deal they have several empty ones on the yard to choose from. Or they call a guy like me to come save the load. I don't know how well they afford it but like I said every big company around here has empty trucks sitting around not in use.

Just to be clear, those are spare trucks . Waiting for a breakdowns. When we hauled mail, we have three spare tractors , one spare straight truck, and three spare trailers. Spare fleet size going to be based on fleet size and customers on time requirements. A good snow storm we would rent every truck Penskie had . Knowing the inbounds may not be in before pull time on the out bounds. Have winched tractors under trailers way to many times to make pull time.

really it is possible to use US trucktor in EU.

If we have to go there we purchase oversize permit for Poland (18.5m), we have ECE lamps and taillamps, 24v output for trailer EBS and Euro-2 paper for engine.

But really my shaker is too old, it is E2, that's why it makes money on Caucasian and Asia roads
