I hope the US Army understands that for the best trailer you also need the very best tractor:

Not really, the DAF Tropco that I showed is not being replaced.

DAF offered Tatra trucks for the army, but the politicians opted for cheaper Scanias. Those Scanias are essentially just green painted civilian trucks with some adaptations. I think that even an old 1950's DAF army truck has better off-road capabilities than any of these Scanias.

Ah,but you don't know the full story.

    Scania has a dutch connection.
They have a big factory in the low country.
So while all are allowed to bid for the dutch army, most orders will go to Daf or Scania.

    That's not the whole story.
Some 15 years ago DAF was developing a new truck for the Dutch army. The problem was that the specifications for the trucks were changing all of the time. At a certain moment DAF was testing the new truck when the specifications were changed again, forcing DAF to design a new front axle. Then DAF had enough, and told the ministry of defence that they pulled out of the project. That forced the ministry of defence to look for another manufacturer, and that was Scania.

This time the reasoning at DAF will have been that they have very good relations with Tatra, that uses DAF components, and Tatra has a superior off-road truck with technology that has proven itself for decades. So then, why develop something new?

MB: 5000 workshops in 160 countries, 110 countries are users
yes, well it is worlds largest construction fair, trucks just play secondary roles.
3 days are not enough to see everything truck related.
if you want to see construction machines and cranes you will need one week.
everything become super expensive at that time. hotel rooms are 300€ easy.
i had an apartment just across road from fair. so i needed car only while visiting bar
