something does not fit right to my head.
scania is certainly not worlds most capable offroad truck even in competition with other regular trucks (tatra is not considered as regular truck). but keep in mind that daf is only european brand without possibility to order AWD. even their construction 6x4 and 8x4 are very rare and some of their features are way behind construction trucks of other brands.
these are all militarised civil trucks, real purpose built military trucks are extincting slowly.
there is no way that scania can be cheaper of daf....because in civil trucks scania is 25% more expensive.
scania lost against MAN on their own market which is strange.
btw MB has 5000+ workshop in 160 countries, 110 armys worldwide own MB defence wehicles (mostly G) i have forget how many of them got trucks, but if i remember right it is about 75-80.
Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

True, in the past DAF did have AWD, but hasn't offered it for decades now. However, I recently showed a video of a DAF CF 6x6 prototype, so it seems as if DAF was contemplating offering AWD. On the other hand they have GINAF offering the Dutch market at least with with all the construction trucks it needs, using DAF components. And now Tatra with its DAF components is also available on the Dutch and German market, and seems to be doing quite well. It may also be that the DAF production plant can not handle more types of trucks. It is a bit dated and cramped really. A few years ago DAF did build a new state of the art cab production plant, so perhaps a new production line will be the next thing. The DAF military trucks that are going to be replaced now, were AWD trucks, and the DAF Tropco tractor I showed is a 6x6 as well.
No, DAF was offering Tatra this time, and Scania is cheaper than Tatra so it seems. You're right that Tatra is not a regular truck, it is a real off-road truck. Very good for army use. -
No, it's sand. That truck has a central tyre inflation system, and by the look of it, it was using a very low tyre pressure.
