I've heard those DAF fire trucks are absolutely horrible to drive. The steering is a rope and pulley system instead of tie rods and drag links

This is an American fire fighter on a trailer. We don't have those things in Europe.
Judge for yourself how horrible a DAF is to drive (small DAF LF truck, comparable to Peterbilt 220 / Kenworth T270/T370)

Remarkable, you can detect all that from watching a video.
DAF does not produce fire engines, but they do produce truck chassis that have been specially adapted to be used as fire engines. Could it be that the suspension has been designed for safe high speed driving?
