Define great demand, five units a year?
Because that technology works and is cost effective.
Specialty equipment like that is not built for longevity. With that many moving parts inside it is quite likely to happen numerous times in say a 30,000 hour life cycle. Much more frequently than conventional systems I would bet.
Not true. It all depends on the application. 700 hp with no hub reduction is no problem for OTR trucks. 400 hp in articulated haul trucks is quite necessary.
Define very long; one season of sub zero temperatures, followed by mud with brush in it? It is a very vulnerable design for puncture and cracking, and you really have no idea how long they last.

They are impressive machines, but for an extremely narrow application. They are not efficient for anything else. The fact that they have so little competition is purely because there is so little demand for what they excel at. Definitely a niche market, and not one worthy of pursuing by many other companies, of course.

No because in normal life it's 32T of gross weight on 4 axles, and 24T on 3 axles. 99% of 4 axles used here are 8x4, 8x8 is simply to heavy, complicated and expensive. Only advantage is when you almost don't get on public roads for whole day, just "playing" in quary.

But then everyone seems to use those (how do you call it in english actually??):

You forgot one things that kinds never get :D, why old tatras have wheels in so big "positivie" angle, when empty.

Of course, it's very cost effective to set up a production line for 5 units per year
It seems that in total 400,000 Tatra trucks have been build since 1945, so the Tatra technology is working as well. Those trucks can be found all over the world.
Of course not, that's why these trucsk are in use all over the world, including friendly environments as Siberia.
Sure, and all that knowledge is based on, well, really nothing. Just wild guess work.
Do you remember I was talking about Tatra trucks? These trucks often have a two speed reduction gear behind the gearbox, resulting in very much torques applied to the drive line.
This is from a Tatra specification leaflet: "The MX375 engine is used in the extreme heavy-duty applications and is combined with axles equipped with wheel-hub reduction gears." The MX375 has been replaced by the more powerful MX390 since then.
Of course, that's why there are special Arctic versions of these trucks where literary everything is heated, up to the batteries. These versions are used in Siberia.
Sure, after many decades of building these trucks, these rubber things are still very vulnerable. Somehow none of their customers ever noticed, but luckily you did.
That niche is far bigger then you think. Examples? AWD tippers, mining trucks, agro trucks, agro tractors, AWD fire trucks, trucks for under developed regions with (very) poor roads etc. There are some 1500 DAF dealers world wide that can sell and service these trucks, much more potential than you think.

You know it’s rather laughable how you will say anything to defend your beloved Tatra. It’s just a truck my friend!

I don’t understand your fascination with 8x8 dump trucks......

While they are nice , as a for hire truck owner I don’t see them being economically viable.......@ $85 usd an hour. The going rate around me for a 4 axle dump that hauls 24 ton net legally.
