These 10 x 4 and 12 x 6 mining trucks are economically superior to articulated trucks, when the conditions are right. When the terrain becomes too difficult, the articulated trucks will be better. KVB posted some pictures of articulated trucks are used to build on our coastal defences. These trucks have to operate in very soft sand, possibly even in sea water. That's no place for a 10 x 4 mining truck. On the other hand the photos Oxbow posted show a hard even surface, no problem for a normal passenger car, let alone for a 10 x 4 mining truck.
Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

Haul roads look plenty firm to me........
sdaniel, snowman_w900, spyder7723 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Because Oxbow is talking about a Concept know as WHOLE OF LIFE COST .
Whereas You're more concerned with the UPFRONT COST . They're two completely different concepts.
I could go on & type up an explanation, But your farToo much of a narcissist to accept My reasoning, Besides, You've proven beyond all reasonable doubt over the last few hundred pages. That ;
You very clearly lack the Humility to own your Mistakes, & admit you're wrong.sdaniel, snowman_w900, spyder7723 and 4 others Thank this. -
I can also tell you these 10x4’s don’t have the turning radius of an articulated haul truck. So they wouldn’t be very good for a tight job site
sdaniel, snowman_w900, SAR and 2 others Thank this. -
What we don't see here is that the sand comes from the beach. The sand is sucked from the bottom of the see, and arrives through pipes on the beach. From there it is transported further in land.

There are two kind of costs, capex and opex. Capex is the amount of money you have to invest in a machine, opex are the operational costs, mainly fuel, maintenance, and wages. Both types of costs are lower with these 10 x 4 and 12 x 6 trucks, so how is it possible that after 20,000 hours the articulated truck is cheaper?
-
These are 10 x 4 x 6 trucks, so they have three steer axles. The turning radius is quite small.
-
They can’t be that cheap......
snowman_w900 and Oxbow Thank this. -
Resale and tax implications are two things that jump out. If you look at the pictures @Oxbow posted, they appear to be rental units. Where to you suggest he rents a 12x6 truck? If he bought one(which he never would), where would he get parts?snowman_w900, SAR, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this.

Its definitely a cool unit. I used to wrench with a guy who worked on it back when it was in operation.Oxbow and spsauerland Thank this.
