they are set on that way than everything is in "tollerance", my car says 0.6-1L is normal for 1000km, it does not use any oil on 15000km.
my brother make 25000km without any oil on his C klasse.
actually big difference in reality, big difference in price too, but r6 is worth every cent
Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

i will agree with you that not every same oil is really same. despite manufacturers say it does not matter it only matters about their norms listed on oil and you can mix different brands together.
MB trucks use Aral oil, fill same truck with shell no oil is being used. opel cars use even genuine GM oil, my experience is Mobile was only one that worked good.
Vw works best on castrol in my experienceFeedman, Oxbow and daf105paccar Thank this. -
btw long service intervals seems to us like something very bad but in reality it works. it depends on owner if he will use cheaper oil and replace it earlier or more expensive and keep it longer.....
brother of my father told me that 60years he changed oil every 2500kmOxbow and daf105paccar Thank this. -
I see. I should have known that your brother's XF 105 was using 1 litre on 600 km, and 1 litre on 600 km is the same as 1 litre on 9000 km. Yes, that makes perfect sense.

That's not surprising, many cars hardly use any oil.
So we have the more advanced oils in Europe. Interesting. -
spyder7723, nevesu, KVB and 2 others Thank this. -
I normally use Mobil 1 ESP, but the last time I used Shell Helix since that was the first 0W-30 504.00/507.00 oil. The other 504.00/507.00 oils were still 5W-30. However, Mobil 1 ESP is now 0W-30 as well.
You can use the 504.00/507.00 oils in almost any VAG car, except for one pumpedüse diesel that needs a previous diesel oil specification.
The the new 508.00 0W-20 oil can only be used in the latest engines. -
You don’t have a car...... bicycle maybe.
nevesu, Oxbow and spsauerland Thank this. -
time when tdi engines were serious ones.
i mean balance between fuel economy, performances, trouble free and overall costs.KVB, spsauerland and Oxbow Thank this. -
The new FA-4 oils are not suitable for most existing engines, they are meant for new engines.
The CK-4 oils should be suitable for all existing engines, but it seems Ford has some problems with oils with that specification.
In the US you look for these API specifications. The European equivalent is Acea specifications, but we don't look at those when we're looking for oil. We will look at the specifications of the engine manufacturer, because two oils may have the same Acea specification and the same viscosity, but one is for MB, and the other for VAG. The label on the oil bottle will say if the oil is approved.
