Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

Killing time to update DAVIE 4 this morning, so I called Paccar Engine Support center about recommended oil for MX-13 EPA 10. I explained that Rapido and Paccar powertrain website had conflicting information. He checked and Rapido is correct and stated that all technical information should be sourced from Rapido. Software changes are required if you want to switch to CJ/CK 10W30.

Yeah, I pulled 6 7 8 and 9 axle A combos and they're a real joy to pull, a lot more drama than a B train, although I have glanced in the mirror while on black ice and the B train looked like a big Z !
I can't count the number of times pulling A trains when I looked in the mirror the pup was in the wrong lane attempting to pass me.
Even on flat dry pavement I've seen the pup in the wrong lane, all you can do is give the trailer spike a quick yank, keep your foot in it and try to stay ahead of it!

@haycarter, I was ordering some suspension parts from my local spring shop the other day and he said they were shipping all kinds of suspension parts to Australia because guys were having trouble getting parts. You run into this before?

Don't feel alone. Middle of seeding, trying to beat the oncoming rain and the engine oil decided to migrate to the cooling system on my big cam. Waiting 2 days for parts as the seeding outfit sits idle.

Well, European truck manufacturers try to give the drivers a high end passenger car like comfort in their cabs with regard to sound proofing and suspension, not quite what you're looking for.
Interesting vision. As far as I'm aware Canada just follows the American D.O.T. rules, so that's a bit different from Australia. With regard to the emission standards for instance, Australia accepts comparable US, EU or Japanese standards. Getting EU cabovers in Canada would require changes in the federal (and other) weight regulations. I notice that the weight on the steer axle can be no more then 5500 kg according to the Canadian regulations, and an unladen DAF FTT 6 x 4 tractor already surpasses that on some models. Te set back steer axle of European tractors make that a lot of the weight of the engine, gearbox and cab is on the steer axle, much more then with conventional NA trucks, or NA cabovers that usually have the steer axle more to the front. All the axle loads are rather low in Canada compared to the EU.

In the Netherlands (and I suppose in the rest of Europe as well) you can not have more than two pivot points in a combination, otherwise the stability of the whole thing is going to suffer. Electronic stability equipment is mandatory on such combinations.

Interesting. It seems as if Schlumberger had its European headquarters in Gatwick at the time, so perhaps that's why they went to Foden for their trucks.
Today the European headquarters in in France (Brexit??).

    Interesting.
So the Paccar powertrain website tells us that 10W30 CJ/CK oil would be the recommended oil for the MX engines, but the Paccar Engine Support centre tells you that your engine would need a software upgrade for that oil (would be interesting to know why). That raises the question if such software updates are part of the regular maintenance of an engine.

Seems to me that 10W30 oil could lower your fuel consumption a bit (1% ??).

    daf105paccar Thanks this.
