So you have continued your circular argument and associated the necessity of 48V to using electric motors for a/c, power steering, water pump, etc.

    Nice try.

You are missing the big reason why 48V is being talked about once again with NA HD trucks, NOx emissions. 2024 is going to big another big hurdle and electrically heated catalysts and electric driven EGR pumps seem to be getting a lot of interest.

Ever hear of a thing called "work hardening"? Its when a metal gets bent repeatedly and the material hardens and breaks at the point of stress. In my day to day life (as a mechanic I should add), I see way more issues with smaller wires breaking than with bigger wires breaking. The smaller wires are far more suceptible to breakage than standard 14 or 16 gauge wires.

Speaking of emissions, can someone tell those 2 forest fires burning nearby to stop producing so much CO and particulates? I'd like to go outside and bbq my steak soon.

Not sure. They're a couple hundred kilometers away. Smoke is so thick outside now it starts to get hazy just across the street.

That depends on the wires. If you use thin wires with just a few strands, then they will break more easily. However, with many very thin strands, the wire will be much more flexible, and not prone to breaking.

Fine, those can also be good reasons for a 48V system.

But let's look at the things I mentioned:
    • With an electric oil pump, you can get oil pressure and lubricate the engine before starting it. That is normal with many big engines. So no metal-to-metal contact, and the engine turns over far more easily, and certainly in winter time.
    • An electric coolant pump can keep the coolant circulating though a very hot engine, after it has been switched off. No steam bubbles and other problems. With a stand heater, the coolant pump can also be used to heat up the engine before starting it in winter time.
    • An electric air conditioning compressor can be used when the engine has been switched off. No idling or extra stand air conditioning.

No, that was always one of the reasons for 48V. Also in cars.

You missing a bigger HP consumer, the air compressor.
