I may be wrong, but that truck is likely spec'd heavier than most US built highway tractors and I'm also guessing it's set up to pull road trains with long distances between fuel stops, and the Aussie buck is a bit lower than the US buck, which seems awfully high, but I started trucking when new trucks were $35k to $45K.
Here's a W900 in Canada that looks close to what I imagine the T909 is, (spec wise), without a price.

Here is a similarly spec'd T800 with a full list of options selling for $299,550, if it was W900 it might be a few bucks more.
You'll have to estimate and subtract for the winch and the 23 hours on the clock, along with a few other things not needed where you live, then add the extras on the T909 to extrapolate the the approximate cost of the W900 in Canada.
(the Canadian buck is $0.92 when compared to your own)

After thought:
Australia is a big place with low population density, also something to consider.
Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

So for 5,000 usd why wouldn’t I get a little flash? I guarantee it will retain more than that 5k in resell value.

The T909 is a much like the W900 in America & is an "aspirational " Model & is priced accordingly. A similar spec T610 would be at least 10% cheaper.
Also, Australia is a Very Small Market. Kenworth is the Market Leader & only sells 250-280 trucks a Month. But We keep our Trucks a Long time (Compared to say Europe) & are more than Happy to pay extra to get a Truck that will last 15 or so years.Oxbow, Humblepie and spsauerland Thank this.
