Common sense says you position yourself in such a position that you can see the driver when you walk in front of the truck. Hell we were taught that in kindergarten for when crossing in front of the school bus (which had a hood).

And how about the sides of a truck? And by teh way, we hardly have school buses over here. Don't need them.

I have practical real world experience. Do you? You aren’t sitting around and arguing theory with others who are only armed with theory. We do this for a living everyday day in and day out. So please don’t try to tell me where my blind spots are.

City vs country living. I'd have had to walk 8 kilometers one way just to get to school. Some of my friends had to ride the school bus for 45 minutes on the highway in order to get to school. Canada is a VAST country. Its not practical to open up a school in a community of 75 people.

Edit: We have hundreds of small hamlets of under 1000 people in this country.

People from postage stamp sized countries can't fathom that. We have a similar phenomenon here with people that live in nyc, boston, san fran, dc, or L.A. they simply aren't able to wrap their heads around the idea that public transportation doesn't work outside their high population density cities.

20 min bus ride every day when I grew up. 9 people in my graduating class, just shy of 100 in the entire school k-12 including staff.

My high school was a bit bigger. About 220ish and I think about 30ish in my grad class. We had kids coming from nearly an hour away on the bus every day. They had a high mountain pass to climb over and there were days in winter where they'd cancel the bus service that way due road conditions.
