Yes, but what John Oliver is doing is also satire. He's using facts to ridicule incompetent politicians. The fact that 70,000 bridges are in a deplorable state should worry truckers. Remember the bridge laws? If these 70.000 bridges were in a good state, you would most likely not need those laws. You need tax money to repair or replace those bridges, but of course no one wants to pay more fuel tax. So where to get the money to fix the bridges?

 

I say this with peace and love.

We should stop the foreign aid and being the world's police force.......

Perhaps, but on the other hand foreign aid is good for trade. You could also think differently about taxes. It's not money that you loose, but you use it to buy things collectively that you can't buy as a private person, like good bridges, or a good water supply system with clean water and no dangerous lead pipes.

 

Cat,things are never that simple.You should know that.Never believe ANY politician who claims he/she has the easy fix to problems.

 

If a politician's lips are moving he/she is lieing . The industry, for the most part , is asking for higher fuel tax. But only use it for road maintenance. Both parties have "borrowed" from the Highway Trust Fund.If they would replace the missing funds (only, no more ), every bridge could be replaced , and every inch(or centimeter) could be repaved. Why are funding 80% of every Amtrack riders fair out of the Highway Trust Fund . Bike trails, really ? But they can not replace the missing funds, they gave it all away. Money has to come from some where , so please raise the fuel tax, we will pay for it again, we did it more then once already. But stop stealing it and giving it away. And not sure what products foreign aid is buying ? Trade and aid are two different things!
