Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

    I suppose so, the truck itself will still be using 24 volt. It's not so difficult to lower the voltage for the trailer lights.

    It has always been a mystery to me why North American trucks are using 12 volt, while the rest of the world is using 24 volt. A 24 volt system is more reliable, and the currents are lower, enabling thinner and more flexible wiring.

    Europe changed in the 70s to 24v.
    North America did not.

    Lol, this thread is amusing. I find it a mystery that European vehicles drive on the left side while American vehicles drive on the right side. LOL

    I wouldn't go as far as saying 24 volt is more reliable than 12 volt. A lot of construction equipment is 24 volt here and we see the same issues as we do on 12 volt equipment. However, I will agree that with 2x the voltage, you only draw half the amperage. On the flip side though, smaller wiring doesn't seem to stand up as well as heavier wiring.

    I have been given the impression 24v is easier on the batteries.(longer life)

    Only 2 nations drive on the wrong side in Europe.
    Ireland and UK.
