But run your tri drive empty in snow and you have problems.

I concede the point about snow. Empty is the worst time for that. I should know I did ice empty.

There was a fella not too long ago who exhibited treads driven by 4x4 pickup tires. Just roll up on them, set 4 wheel on and go.

I believe there is room to support big trucks in really bad weather that otherwise will shut the highway and choke off the economy. The engineers need to get busy and create things that allow 18 wheelers to become true monster heros able to get through even in 4 feet of snow or what have you.

There are ugly Euro trucks that can do just that, the Tatra Phoenix tractor. Available as 4x4, 6x6, 8x8, with Paccar MX engines, DAF CF cab, with all kind of wheels, even big floatation tires. All from the shelf so to speak. Even available as special Artic version, with heated everything, engine, gearbox, batteries, DEF/AdBlue tank, fuel tank, cab of course. They are used in Siberia as tippers.

An example as Agro truck with flotation tires and steerable third axle:

    DAM.

    Im positively impressed.

Im also embarrassed. 24 million people create good things like that machine with all the options to battle winter and terrain while our own great Nation of 300 million continue to flay the whip on the same old tired post war tech that may or may not fail unnecessarily.

This is what you are looking for? A Tatra with an older cab, maybe different engine etc. , but that doesn't matter. A Tatra is a Tatra.

Not bad. Two feet of wet snow no less.

They do build em a touch light on driver and human possibilities though.

Closer to three feet, those are big wheels, 16R20 or so.

    How do you mean?

Another more clearer view on such a tractor:

Compared to American Luxury... or driver amenities.

I can watch that video all day, that driver knows how to apply just a touch of power and ease that thing all through the forest. Most people just jam the hammer and burn to bury themselves deep.
