Also keep in mind that permiting an over weight load is very common and a rather easy process. So how much does or "legal" weight limits actually have to do with the structural integrity of our roads and bridges?

You spoke of the KW 104, so that's a Paccar product. Now suppose you could get a DAF XF (Paccar Europe) with an extended sleeper cab (about 5 feet longer), and two rear axles of course, would you be interested in such a tractor?

See, to me that truck is just flat out UGLY. Looks like something made out of recycled soda bottles instead of beer cans. Now compare that one to the one I posted earlier and that one that will never get a date.

Well, I suppose if you would do a crash test with both cabs, the result could be the opposite. Furthermore we just established that getting in and out of a cab build like this is not quite safe. Now, I'm not surprised you just love that big chrome radiator, but if that's all that is important to you, perhaps a rethink might be a good idea.

as for volvo cab, is not good, i cant find many good details about it..... first of all doors cant open to 90deg, than there is bulge on doors ( for bottles or similar) that makes entering in truck more difficult, steps are moved too much forward so even slim person like me ( 180 75kg) have problem to get inside, doors are too low so even someone with my height have problems to get inside. once you are in.... dashboard looks very ugly, ergonomics is very bad, there is no logic, air condition is placed down you need to move eyes from road to adjust temp.

logic of instruments and control is very bad.... i have tried to find average fuel consumption and trip datas , i give up after 10minutes. simbols on display is not logical especially those related to gearbox programs, P, P+, C or similar also font is strange so it is bit difficult fo understand what is happening , you cant find cruise control and speed limiter, wind drag is well it is noise inside....

cab is too short, no place for shoulders , volvo still have cover of middle storage recessed, while normal trucks have it flat ,or even pulled to back ( like daf) , seat is good, cab is so short inside that you cant feel its height because you have feeling that roof is not part of cab , i get impression that it is like hallway

ishift really should be on steering wheel, it obstruct when you want to walk from drivers seat.... and worst detail in cab is shelf above drivers possition, i hit this one several times when trying to get up or sit on seat

this is high end version of swedish volvo with all possible equipment, i am not talking about cheap fleet one from ghent

if you ask me this cab is worst than before, it is interesting that it is shorter than old one, and now 75mm shorter than MB

What are you talking about? All trucks go through crash tests. As for getting in and out of the truck, that one has stairs that open with the door. We can sit here and argue the rest of our lives about which is the better truck. At the end of the day they have different uses for different scenarios. We have wider streets for the most part and the European trucks, to me, are just flat out UGLY. Looks do not get the job done but if I am going to spend money on a truck it better look good too.

The US got away from cabovers because the length laws were lifted/extended and a conventional just has a better ride. The W900 I drove has a better ride than the Mack Pinnacle. All because the steer axle was further forward.

As for the thread title, we do not necessarily hate European truck, we just think they are ugly.

Same with some cars. You have diesel cars that get 50 mpg or better but you can not export them to the US simply because they will not meet emission standards. Volkswagen just went through a big deal because they were masking the emissions in the computer on the car. Cost them lots of money.
