I think your post really nails it. European trucks are great for Europe. Let's face it, a 260" wheelbase conventional with spring suspension and solid mount cab rides better than a 135" Cabover, but you wouldn't want to drive it in Prague! Here, we have few cities that are older than 200 years, and many of them have built and rebuilt since.

The question shouldn't be "why do Americans hate European trucks", it should be "Is there any reason for Americans to like European trucks?"

Once you determine that your Cabover aren't needed here, why would you choose one over an American truck?

That is your assumption. NA drivers who did drive a modern EU cabover disagree. The problem is, you compare modern EU cabovers with old NA cabovers, they are completely different. Over and over I've read comments of NA drivers claiming the cabovers are bad for your spine. I'm sure if the cab is bolted to the frame, you're right. But a modern EU cab has air suspension, and combine that with the best $3000 seats, and you have a ride that is better then most passenger cars.

Well, I've seen nice video clips of NA trucks getting stuck on the road, where any EU truck would have no trouble at all.

Unless, like in MD, you pay the extra money for the proper type of registration, such a dump service registration.

Then, "overloading" the pavement is perfectly ok.

I left it out, and I shouldn't have, considering there may be a language difference. A long wheelbase conventional, even if solid mount cab and spring suspension will ride better than a 135" wheelbase cabover, even if it has air ride cab and suspension.
But now, anyway, almost all our conventionals have air ride cabs and suspensions. All things being equal, a longer wheelbase means a smoother ride. That's just physics.

Don't try using facts... If their trucks were vastly better , Volvo would been building them in Dublin VA years ago. Freightliner would be churning them out at NC plants. Since they are owned by Mercedes.
