Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

How dare you bring facts into an irrational emotional rant.

 

I've driven both, European cabovers (Mercedes, Daf, Volvo, Scania, MAN), some with full air suspension and North American trucks. Right now I'm driving a Volvo 730, not really a beauty but for me the most comfortable truck I've driven.
Never again would I drive a European cabover again, I wouldn't feel safe in such a short cab and I would miss the roomy sleeper.

When you have the proper weight on your drive axles, you're not getting stuck in the snow like a European truck with one drive axle. Sure, you couldn't drive in Italy in the Alpes or in Greece in the mountains with an American truck due to the length of the tractor and trailer.
I don't think that anybody here in the States would prefer a European cabover over an American conventional.

Yes laws of psychics change because of the name plate! Or do tires magically grip 5 times better when bolted to a DAF?

 

There is canadian old timer who would disagree.
He had 3 Fords,2conventionals and 1 COE.(last series Ford made before they left the NA market)
He says the COE rode the best evendough it had the shortest wheelbase.
He also agreeded that it was not logical but they never could figure out where the difference came from.

 

If you did a lot off east coast city ,you might like it.

And i would prefer a big EU cab to a old flattop sleeper.

No they don't.
But the same laws off psychics give the advantage to a single screw when empty or with a light load.(be it a NA or EU truck)

The problem now is that I had a very nice and civilized exchange of opinions with snowman_W900, and when I asked him about his opinion, you came in with the very surprising remarks that the trucks I showed were ugly, and so on. The other usual gang members joined in of course, and we haven't heard from snowman again. God forbid he might have said that he liked a European cabover. No, for a real NA driver only the 60 year old steam engine look is the way a truck has to be. You do know that you can buy a Kenworth today that looks exactly the same as the one they sold 60 years ago? I suppose that is NA style progress?

 

The sleeper bit is understandable, but there's nothing to prevent a manufacturer to build a bigger sleeper as Scania has shown. If there is demand for it, it can be done.

Not in the cities either.

In that case, Kenworth and Peterbilt aren't selling the small cabovers they have in their program. After all you can get the same trucks in conventional version too. As I understand this, the cabovers are very popular.
