I hope you are getting the point. 8 x 50,000 = 400,000 . Or about what this 2 year old has on it. You really do not know how a high mile truck lasts. We are putting 4 times the miles on stuff . So who can better judge how a truck is going to last , how well it is built. The market putting 50k on them , or the market putting 200+ a years on them?

Yes, clean air you know. It even applies to passenger cars, some cities don't allow old dirty passenger cars either. After all that is the same reason California has these strict laws.

I'm all for clean air but at what expense? Untested technology that has financially wiped out many small owner ops because its too unreliable? The governments do not care about having clean air. If they did, they'd mandate these rules in countries that pollute many times more than what NA and Europe do. Take Canada for example. We produce less than 2% of the world's greenhouse gasses. Even if we reduce our output by 50%, we've removed less than 1% greenhouse gas from the world. Now mandate our strict rules in a place like China. If they were to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by even 10%, they've removed close to 2.5% from the world's total emissions. What's more effective?

You're confusing global environment issues with local ones. When dirty diesel engines produce lot's of soot etc. in densely populated areas, that's bad for the health of people. The Euro emission rules are targeted at that problem, of course reducing fuel consumption (less carbon dioxide) is also going to be an issue now.

And the reason that California cannot pay their bills without borrowing more money. Just like the feds. California is the wrong way to win over drivers here in the states.

California is full of tree hugging window lickers yet they live in a house built out of wood. Oh and what are their protest signs made of?

No. San Francisco is on coastal hills.

In any case, a truck delivering to California spends less than 1% of it's fuel in the city.

my father runs 1987 truck, day after day, it sit one month per year because of bad weather....he even started to pull lowloader trailer again, with excavators and other machines

it is still working without many problems, just few things, this year he changed sealing on steering pump, central lubrication unit ( parts for old one are no longer available), and few plastics on balancing arms
last year he change driveshaft bearing and exhaust brake housing on left side

in last 10 years he invested about 3500€ in repair and maintanance.

we have here 25% tax on everything, he pays extra 40% on net income, so he should buy new truck to get expenses-avoid tax. tax law forces you to do that, but he dont want to do that, he is kind connected with truck. he drive same model since 1976, and he want to keep it till retirement which should be 1.5months ago, but he he says: both health and truck serves me, so he decide to go further if possible till 2018 because than it would be 60years since first truck was bough in my family.
